Description

Over the last few years in the wine sector, many technologies have been developed and adapted to improve company management (rationalization of fertilizers, reduction of water consumption, of plant protection products, etc.), based on information gathering systems that combine hardware and software innovators able to analyze data from multiple sources in real time. With these techniques it is possible to carry out targeted and diversified interventions on individual parcels within the same plot, allowing the winemaker to improve the quality yields of his vineyard. However, many of the solutions currently proposed on the market have strong cost limits or applicability and only large wineries can equip plants of this type, while all other small-medium companies in Veneto would be in difficulty in technological adaptation, remaining excluded from the processes of innovation. Rovitis 4.0 wants to demonstrate the feasibility, effectiveness and economic and environmental sustainability of a particular robotic management of the vineyard, as an alternative to traditional management. This solution guarantees multiple benefits for the farm, with economic, environmental and social benefits: - it optimizes resources and reduces the production costs of grapes, even for companies smaller than 20 hectares - it minimizes the environmental impact, thanks to a rational and targeted use of plant protection products - it reduces risks to the health of operators in agricultural practices - the costs of creating content want to make the system accessible to small businesses. The activities that the project provides are: - Development of 2 prototype robots - Verification through 3 tests in the vineyard of: safety and performance automatic guidance, safety and correct interaction robot-DSS and robot-robot, effective interventions in the vineyard - Verification of the capacity of the robot + DSS system to autonomously manage phytosanitary treatments through the circularity of information - Comparison of traditional management practices in the vineyard versus the benefits related to the innovation introduced by the project, demonstrating the effectiveness of the latter and quantifying the convenience - Economic: investment profitability considering the reduction of labor costs, rationalization of costs and raw materials due to the automation of processes - Environmental: determined by the ability of robots to recognize the state of the crop and sensitive areas to calibrate the dose of adequate plant protection.

Objectives

The Rovitis 4.0 project proposes a highly innovative system for the Veneto wine sector: a robotic management of the vineyard, which is based on dialogue between a robotic system, sensors and DSS (Decision Support System) software. The idea is that of a self-managed company, able to intervene in the field on the basis of the real risks to which the crop is subjected and minimizing the intervention of personnel. The effective convenience in obtaining this technology will be defined by experimentation with a company under a conventional regime and a biological one.
